Attendance Policy for HCYO
HCYO is delighted to have your child participate in this unique and wonderful opportunity to experience the joy of learning and performing great music. As with any other high-level endeavor, dedication and team-work are a given. Please review the HCYO attendance policy and be sure to sign in at each rehearsal. Our orchestra program with its full tuition scholarship is intended for students who demonstrate the highest level of commitment and attendance at all scheduled rehearsals and performances.
- Attend all scheduled rehearsals on Monday evening for each semester (fall and spring).
- Arrive at least 15 minutes before every rehearsal begins so the musician can SIGN-IN, un-case, tune, and warm-up.
- Attend all scheduled warm-ups, dress rehearsals and concerts. See concert schedule for dates. Students in all the orchestras work very hard to present excellent and highly prepared concerts. It is very important and expected for HCYO families to attend all concerts and to stay for ALL the orchestras that are performing. Parents who MUST leave early should notify the Staff Assistant in advance and the early departure should be in accordance with the attendance policy for an excused absence.
- Bring INSTRUMENT to all rehearsals and concerts. Bring MUSIC to all rehearsals and concerts. Bring a PENCIL to all rehearsals.
- Violin, viola, cello, and string bass students who are in "Con Moto", "Cavatina", and the "Hill Country Youth Orchestra" are required to attend the HCYO Summer String Camp in August. Exceptions to this are students who are attending another music camp that meets at the same time or another type of special camp that meets only during the first week of August (such as the KISD "Dream Camp"). Any request for exceptions must be made in writing to the Director of Education.
- All absences should be reported by the parent/guardian to the Staff Assistant by phone (830) 285-9781 or email. Please explain the reason for the absence. This is very important for attendance and safety purposes. If possible, please notify the Staff Assistant of the absence prior to the start of rehearsals or concerts .
Excused absences are as follows:
- Illness
- School concert or mandatory rehearsal
- Family emergency
