Concertante Orchestra

The Concertante Orchestra is the intermediate level of the Hill Country Youth Orchestras. This level is for students with at least two to three years experience on their instrument and introduces the ensemble skills of phrasing, bowing articulation, dynamic contrast and interpretation. Young musicians learn to follow complex conducting patterns and intricate rhythmic patterns. The repertoire at the Concertante level is designed to challenge and reinforce the skills required to eventually play the advanced orchestral literature.

The Concertante Orchestra requires a strong commitment from the musicians and their families. Leadership skills are taught and developed at this level and musicians are trained for roles such as section leader and concert-master.  Practice is a requirement and encourages instrumental mastery. The  Concertante Orchestra is an important step in the development of the individual musician and the training of orchestral and ensemble skills needed for the transition to the rigorous musical requirements of the advanced HCYO Sinfonia.
