HCYO Sinfonia
The Sinfonia is the most advanced ensemble of HCYO. This level is for students with at least three to four years experience on their instrument and previous experience in an orchestral setting. The orchestra experience required can be from a youth orchestra, a school orchestra program, a region or all-state honor orchestra, or a community or church orchestra. The Sinfonia prepares challenging music from the standard string orchestra and chamber music literature and performs multiple movement works and full orchestra repertoire. Advanced ensemble skills are emphasized and musicians perform to the highest musical standards, including skilled bowing articulation, stylistic interpretation, musical phrasing, technical agility, and strong dynamic contrasts. Guest conductors, clinicians and master-classes are regular features and students have many opportunities for chamber music and community service.
The HCYO Sinfonia requires a strong commitment from the musicians and their families. Attendance is expected at all scheduled rehearsals and individual practice is required. It is recommended that students in Sinfonia take private lessons and listen to and study the orchestral repertoire that is rehearsed weekly. Musicians in the Hill Country Youth Orchestra regularly participate in region honor orchestra auditions, solo and ensemble competitions, and summer music camps in addition to the HCYO Summer String Camp. The Hill Country Youth Orchestra is proud of the mentoring its musicians exhibit towards the younger orchestras in HCYO and encourages community service.
It is the vision of the Hill Country Youth Orchestras to provide musical and community service experiences that contribute to the growth and success of its most advanced players. HCYO values this opportunity to provide an excellent music education to the youth of the Hill Country and its surrounding area.
