KERRVILLE— The Hill Country Youth Orchestras (HCYO) will host tours of the historic Schreiner Mansion (the Mansion) to raise funding for tuition scholarships and music education for the organization. The Mansion, at 226 Earl Garrett Street in Kerrville, TX has undergone extensive remodeling and will be fully decorated for the holiday season.
Sounds of the holiday season will fill the beautifully decorated historic Schreiner Mansion. Guided tours with a knowledgeable docent will be held December 10 - 14, 2018, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. with tours on the hour (tours begin promptly on the hours and the last tour is at 4:00 p.m.). The docent lead tours will feature a 15 minute historic video about the Schreiner family and the Mansion. Admission for the tour is $15 for adults, students $5 and children age eight or under free — tickets are available at the door. Following each tour guests will enjoy cookies and wassail. All profits from the tours will be used by the HCYO to help pay for music education programs for youth.
The Mansion, in the heart of downtown, was completed in 1897 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. San Antonio architect Alfred Giles designed the limestone home which is characterized by a combination of the Romanesque Revival and Chateauesque style. The Mansion has served as an elegant home for the family of Captain Charles Schreiner, the Masonic Lodge, the Hill Country Museum and an education center for Schreiner University during the last 135 years. The Mansion is currently an events center and available for groups along with a fenced garden that backs up to the Peterson Plaza.
