We were so excited to have 65 students participate in our summer camp this year! We had excellent conductors and coaches working with these students. A special shout out to the parents who helped with snacks, you are awesome!
The Crescendo Orchestra met for an hour each day, and Ms. Britt did a wonderful job teaching these beginning students to play as an ensemble . There were many smiles at their "Informance" Friday morning, from both students and audience. It was a joy to see them make music and to see the pride on their faces!
Ms. Britt also taught the Allegretto group. These very talented students learned several new pieces together and they performed for us Friday with the two older groups. It was especially fun to see these students at their enrichment fiddle activity on Thursday. Wow! Can they fiddle! That was a great session for all the groups.
Concertante learned some very advanced music and performed beautifully for us! It is wonderful to see how they progress during the week and it will be great to see them work as a musical team this Fall! Thank you Ms. Plaxico for your fantastic leadership!
Our Junior Sinfonia and Sinfonia Orchestras joined forces to create a very advanced summer group! These students worked hard under the direction of guest conductor Fagner Rocha from Angelo State. The students were fully engaged in learning from Mr. Rocha and they learned many things including how to make a musical performance! Much progress was made and beautiful music was performed! What a joy to hear young people playing at such a professional level!
Our enrichment activities Thursday afternoon were so much fun! In addition to our guest fiddle player, Ms. Britt did a care and maintenance session and an Instrument Petting Zoo for the younger students to try other stringed instruments. We thank our intern Mariah Ramirez for her help with the session.
We are so proud of our 2019 Camp!

KERRVILLE— The Hill Country Youth Orchestras (HCYO) will host tours of the historic Schreiner Mansion (the Mansion) to raise funding for tuition scholarships and music education for the organization. The Mansion, at 226 Earl Garrett Street in Kerrville, TX has undergone extensive remodeling and will be fully decorated for the holiday season.
Sounds of the holiday season will fill the beautifully decorated historic Schreiner Mansion. Guided tours with a knowledgeable docent will be held December 10 - 14, 2018, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. with tours on the hour (tours begin promptly on the hours and the last tour is at 4:00 p.m.). The docent lead tours will feature a 15 minute historic video about the Schreiner family and the Mansion. Admission for the tour is $15 for adults, students $5 and children age eight or under free — tickets are available at the door. Following each tour guests will enjoy cookies and wassail. All profits from the tours will be used by the HCYO to help pay for music education programs for youth.
The Mansion, in the heart of downtown, was completed in 1897 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. San Antonio architect Alfred Giles designed the limestone home which is characterized by a combination of the Romanesque Revival and Chateauesque style. The Mansion has served as an elegant home for the family of Captain Charles Schreiner, the Masonic Lodge, the Hill Country Museum and an education center for Schreiner University during the last 135 years. The Mansion is currently an events center and available for groups along with a fenced garden that backs up to the Peterson Plaza. For more information about the upcoming benefit tours or Mansion rentals that go to support the upkeep of the property go to www.caillouxfoundation.org/schreiner-mansion or contact Katharine Boyette at email@example.com.

On May 12, 2018 our area lost a giant in music in our community and the Hill Country Youth Orchestras (HCYO). Dr. Jay Dunnahoo’s contributions to the Hill Country Youth Orchestras were enormous. Jay was loved by his students not only as their conductor, but as their encourager and one whom inspired. Dr. Dunnahoo was a member of the HCYO Advisory Board until his death. He shall be greatly missed.
