Patricia Lee - Artistic Director/Kathleen C. Cailloux Director of Education/Sinfonia Conductor in Kerrville
Patricia Lee guides the educational programs of the Hill Country Youth Orchestras as the Kathleen C. Cailloux Director of Education. Her vision and implementation of innovative and collaborative music education goals since 2004 have expanded the outreach of HCYO throughout the Texas Hill Country and beyond, increasing the educational opportunities for children to six orchestras, including advanced chamber ensembles, summer orchestra camp, and inspiring master-classes with guest artists . In addition to her position as HCYO Director of Education, Patricia Lee is orchestra director for Tivy High School in the Kerrville Independent School District and the founder of the award-winning KISD String Program. Patricia Lee also serves on the faculty of Schreiner University as director of the Schreiner University Chamber Ensemble and supervisor of student participation in the Symphony of the Hills. Patricia Lee brings many years of professional performance and teaching experience to HCYO. Her teaching experience includes elementary strings instruction for the music magnet programs in the Houston Independent School District, middle school and high school orchestra director for the Northeast Independent School District in San Antonio, development of the Suzuki String Instruction program for the Post Oak AMI Montessori School in Houston, and extensive chamber ensemble coaching as a student teaching assistant at the Phillips Academy Summer Music Camp in Andover, MA while studying for her Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance at the Manhattan School of Music in NYC. Patricia Lee is honored to be part of the Hill Country Youth Orchestras. It is her firm belief that all children have the gift of musical expression and every community is indeed a more wonderful place when children are given the knowledge, tools and opportunities to reach their artistic and creative potential.
Gail Plaxico - Concertante Conductor in Kerrville
Gail Plaxico, current conductor of the HCYO Concertante Orchestra, is proud to be completing her twelfth year with Hill Country Youth Orchestras! During this time she has conducted the beginning Twinkle Suzuki Class, the Allegro Orchestra, Con Moto Orchestra, and Concertante Orchestra. She brings the following training to her classroom: Bachelor of Music Education with a Specialty in Strings; Teacher Training in the Suzuki Violin Method at the University of Louisville in Kentucky, the University of North Carolina in Greenville, North Carolina, and the Baptist Seminary in New Orleans, Louisiana; the Swing Fiddle Workshop at the Augusta Heritage Center of Davis and Elkins College in Elkins West Virginia; Personal Instruction in the Repair and Maintenance of String Instruments at the Scherl and Roth Violin Company in Cleveland, Ohio. Ms. Plaxico has taught private lessons for violin, viola and cello in Georgia, South Carolina, Kentucky, Virginia, and Texas. In South Carolina she taught public school orchestra for McCracken Jr. High in Spartanburg, S.C. In Kentucky she founded a Youth Orchestra, and taught Strings Method classes at Campbellsville Baptist College; in Virginia she assumed directorship of the local Suzuki Program in Martinsville, VA. In Texas she has taught Elementary Strings Classes for NEISD in San Antonio, on-campus private lessons in NEISD and NISD, as well as maintaining a busy private studio in San Antonuio. Her private lesson students are consistent winners of superior ratings at Solo and Ensemble Contests, with many of her High School Students competing and receiving Superior Ratings at the State Level in Austin, TX. Her students consistently place in top chairs in the Regional Honors Orchestra auditions. In addition to her teaching, she spent time working in String Instrument Repair in SC. In each of her locations she has always been involved in performing ensembles--Symphonies, Chamber Orchestras, Quartets, and Trios--as a violinist and a violist,--and is currently playing violin with the Symphony of the Hills in Kerrville, TX. In addition to her classical repertoire, Ms. Plaxico has enjoyed playing with legendary country singer Ray Price, The Sisters Morales, Gypsy Caravan, Salon Mexico, the Fredericksburg Theater Company, and has recorded with Campanas de America. Ms. Plaxico is founder, violinist, and Director of Rosewood Ensembles, playing in many venues in South Central Texas. Her professional affiliations include the South Carolina Music Educators Association, the Kentucky Music Educators Association, The American String Teachers Association, The Suzuki Association of the Americas, The National School Orchestra Association, Music Educators National Conference, The Texas Orchestra Directors Association, and the Texas Music Educators Association.
Theresa Britt - Crescendo/Allegretto Conductor in Kerrville & Fredericksburg
Theresa Britt is director of the Fredericksburg Community Orchestras in Fredericksburg, Texas and a teacher for the Hill Country Youth Orchestras in Kerrville, Texas. In 2012, she completed a Masters in Music with an emphasis in Violin Pedagogy from Texas Tech University. She performs on her violin with a variety of area symphonies and ensembles. She teaches a large studio of violin, viola, and cello students in the Hill Country.
